Day One
Day one brought us MIKE, Valee, Sky Ferreira, Rico Nasty, Earl Sweatshirt, Pusha T, Mavis Staples, and headliners, HAIM. Everyone sweat through their clothes, their shoes, and was glistening by the end of the night, but everyone came to dance and sing.

The first time I saw The 1975 was at a 500 capacity venue in Chicago that I have spent the better part of the last 8 years working at. The 1975 played at Chicago’s Lincoln Hall in October 2013 to a (most likely completely over-capacity) sold-out room, with now defunct opener, Linus Young. Fast forward five and a half years later, and we’re at the United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Blackhawks. The place Michael Jordan last won his last NBA Championship ring at. What can be said that already hasn’t about The 1975? The production and stage design as immense as the show itself, and with that, they brought along Dirty Hit Records label-mates No Rome and Pale Waves as openers. Canadian indie-rock veterans Wolf Parade stopped by the Garrick in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba October 10, 2018.
The recently reunited Sub Pop recording artists have been touring their latest release “Cry, Cry, Cry” since late last year, including several dates at festivals in Canada and the US this summer. After a four night stint in Montreal in late September, Wolf Parade headed west through the Prairies to British Columbia. On this snowy evening in Winnipeg, the band pulled from their entire catalogue much to the delight of the flannel and beanie clad crowd. With video projections swirling and flashing behind them, Wolf Parade, who were clearly enjoying playing together, gave an energetic performance that won’t quick be forgotten.
The Pinc Lincolns delivered a slow burning, mellow set to kick off the evening.
