Pierce The Veil is forever.

The first time I ever got to see Pierce the Veil live was at the Vans Warped Tour in Chicago in 2010. I’ve had the privilege of going to almost every single show they’ve ever had in Illinois since then, and 15 years later, they STILL make me feel like I did that very first time. I was a teenager at the time and had to beg my mom to take me to the show. She finally caved and let me go as long as my cousin came with me. I remember screaming the lyrics so loud that my throat hurt the next day, and taking tons of photos on my BlackBerry, which sparked my love for concert photography. I have so many other fond memories over the years regarding this band. I used to sit at my family computer until the music video for “Caraphernelia” was released in 2010, and again for “King For A Day” in 2012. Years later, I still wait for every music video premiere, but now I can watch from my phone. It’s honestly insane to see a band graduate from playing smaller iconic venues like Bottom Lounge, to now having their headlining tour and selling out a show at Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre with 26,000+ people.

Opening the show was Beach Weather, this is not a band I would expect to be on the lineup but I was happily surprised to see their name on the flyer as I’ve been a fan since 2016 when they released the Chit Chat and What A Drag EP’s. Their overall sound just exudes summer vibes, slight angst, and romance, it was the perfect way to kick off the show.

Sleeping With Sirens. Wow. They’ve toured with Pierce The Veil previously but not to the same magnitude that the I Can't Hear You Tour is. If you want to see a high energy band- this is the one! I was trying to keep up with all the movement happening on stage, not wanting to miss a second of it. As a band that has been touring for 15+ years you can immediately tell that they still give it their all and make sure that every person in the crowd is having the time of their life. The band even played “Scene Two: Roger Rabbit” at the request of a fan, a song that has not been in their setlist for this tour. Their overall set was the perfect balance of old and new which included hits ranging from “If I’m James Dean, You’re Audrey Hepburn” and “Bloody Knuckles.”

The moment we were all waiting for was finally here. Pierce The Veil made their way to the stage while “El Rey,” a cover by Vicente Fernández, played. Banners with symbols representing all 5 of their albums shot down from the ceiling and the entire crowd exploded. The first song in their incredible setlist was Death Of An Executioner, which is a personal favorite of mine off their most recent album The Jaws Of Life. When this tour was announced, most of us fans expected this to be an “eras” type tour, and they absolutely delivered. The setlist was sprinkled with classics from A Flair For The Dramatic like “Yeah Boy And Dollface,” “I’d Rather Die Than Be Famous,” and even “Wonderless.” I never thought I’d get to hear songs off that album performed again so these really hit me in the heart and brought on tears of joy. I do wish there were a few more deep cuts played from Selfish Machines, but that’s okay because Disasterology was included in their encore and it was EVERYTHING. The band confirmed that not only was this the biggest show of the tour, but it was also the biggest single show in their career. I can’t believe how they managed to make a show of 28,000 people feel as intimate as their few hundred capacity shows in Chicago all those years ago. Halfway through the set, rain started falling and no one seemed to mind one bit, everyone was still screaming from the top of their lungs, dancing, and there were even pits happening on the lawn. The final song of their 3-song-encore was none other than “King For A Day,” as soon as the song began it was pure insanity, and even more so when Kellin Quinn was brought back on stage. This song means the world to many fans, it was apparent that they all went somewhere mentally during this final song, and erupting in the crowd. Pierce The Veil cares so much about their fans, the show experience, and their music. Maybe I’m a little biased as a long-time fan, but it seems impossible to dislike such a talented group of people. Thank you Pierce The Veil for this show, and everything you’ve ever done for all of us.

Pierce the Veil delivered an unforgettable performance on December 1st in Chicago, marking the second sold-out night of their Jaws of Life tour. You could feel the anticipation from fans throughout the night, and it was evident that this show would be a standout memory for many. The crowd was filled with die-hard fans proudly sporting band merchandise spanning the band’s 16+ year presence, face paint, and even tattoos dedicated to PTV. Opening the show was Destroy Boys, Dayseeker, and L.S. Dunes.

Pierce the Veil finally took the stage amidst a sea of adoring fans holding signs professing their love, and the entire venue immediately erupted. They kicked off the show with "Death of an Executioner" from their latest album, Jaws of Life, seamlessly transitioning into the beloved classic, "Caraphernelia." The setlist showcased their versatility and growth as a band, playing songs from their extensive discography like "Circles," "Pass the Nirvana," "Hold On Till May," "Resilience," and "Hell Above," among others. They ended their show with an encore of “Besitos,” a song that they haven’t included in their setlist for almost 10 years which was a huge treat, and finally their biggest hit “King For a Day”. The chemistry between Vic Fuentes, Tony Perry, Jaime Preciado, and Loniel Robinson was clear, showcasing years of musical fellowship.

As a devoted fan for over 15 years, I have witnessed Pierce the Veil's dedication to making each performance more amazing than the last. They genuinely care about their fans' experience and consistently find ways to make their shows extraordinary. While their American tour concludes on December 8th in their hometown of San Diego, California, fans can look forward to catching them on their European leg of the Jaws of Life Tour in 2024. Make sure not to miss out on this incredible experience!

Fall Out Boy @ Wrigley Field - Chicago

Fall Out Boy kicked off the first day of summer, and the first day of their So Much For (Tour) Dust tour in their hometown of Chicago at the legendary Wrigley Field. This show was special not only because it was a sold-out hometown opener, but also marked the first show back for guitarist Joe Trohman since his hiatus from the band. The sold-out show was filled with a good mix of fans old and new, which was evident by the 20 years' worth of Fall Out Boy shirts throughout the stadium. Opening the show was Royal & the Serpent, and Chicago bands The Academy Is.., and Alkaline Trio.

I’ve had the privilege of attending many Fall Out Boy shows but the atmosphere of this particular show was unmatched. Even before they took the stage, fans had huge smiles, kept up great energy for all the openers, and the whole stadium even sang along to all the songs that were played during the intermissions.

Before we get into the actual set, I must mention that the production of this show was truly amazing. There was fire coming up behind the band, behind the stage, and Pete Wentz also had a flamethrower attached to his bass that released flames to the beat of certain songs. The stage set also included what appeared to be handmade wooden structures, a giant “singing” Doberman inflatable, and a huge spooky tree. Patrick Stump had mentioned that Wentz designed most of the set for this tour himself. If you thought they were done, think again, they had fireworks throughout the set and a firework show that concluded the concert. Fall Out Boy had so many tricks up their sleeve to make this concert unforgettable for all fans.

Fall Out Boy opened their set with their hit “Love From The Other Side” off of their newest album So Much (For) Stardust. Fans let loose immediately and gave it all they’ve got by singing and dancing along. The band performed a whopping 27-song-setlist that consisted of a balanced blend of songs across their albums. Amongst the setlist was the live debut of G.I.N.A.S.F.S. which was released back in 2007, this sent a shockwave throughout the crowd as soon as the first note was played. A few other hits included in the set were, “Sugar, we’re goin' down”, “This Ain't a Scene, It’s an Arms Race”, “My Songs Know..”, and “Dance, Dance”. Fall Out Boy ended their set with long-time favorite “Saturday” where Pete Wentz jumped into the crowd and sang next to fans.

The Flaming Lips @ Riviera Theatre - Chicago

The Flaming Lips have always held a special place in my heart. I remember seeing them for the first time at Riot Fest in 2014, I was alone and standing in the back of the crowd, and yet watching their set still felt so intimate. The lights, the balloons, the crowd interaction, and the emotion that came through when they finished their set with Race For The Prize (something I still feel to this day) were unforgettable.

Last week The Flaming Lips made their way to Chicago’s Riviera Theatre on their ‘American Head’ tour with a special set. The Heartless Bastards were unable to perform this show due to illness, so The Flaming Lips planned an extended set for the night. Their performance consisted of hits off of American Head, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Embryonic, Soft Bulletin, and more. This concert was an explosion of excitement, they go above and beyond for their fans and it’s easy to see that. From being a die-hard fan or someone who only knows a few songs (or even someone who doesn’t know The Flaming Lips already), it would be impossible to not have the time of your life at one of their shows.
